Natuurfilm over het Zuidhollands duingebied met als hoofdrolspelers dieren en planten, die in dit unieke gebied voorkomen. Achtereenvolgens zien we in fraaie tinten de duinen als vier dagen, in de winter, lente, zomer en herfst. De film legt vast wat iedereen, met oog voor de natuur, kan zien. Zoals de zeldzame harkwesp, maar ook de gewone zilvermeeuw. De pestvogel, maar ook het wilde konijn. In 1988 was de film nummer één van de top veertig uitleenlijst van de R.V.D. Met de film werd een 4 maanden durende toer verzorgd in de V.S., Canada en op Bermuda voor "The National Audubon Society" te New York. De AVRO zond "Vier Duindagen" op televisie uit. about the film... Most of Holland is protected by man made dikes against the sea. Only one province-South Holland has a nature defense - the dunes, unique in Western Europe. The micro climate in the dunes gives shelter to plants, insects and birds found only here. Because the Netherlands are so densely populated, its people have strived to maintain a sure balance between reaping the benefits of the dunes and preserving the ecosystem around them. While the dunes offer themselves as dikes against the sea and serve as a supply system for drinking water, they are also used as a recreation area and nature reserve. Parts are more than 7000 years old. Near the coast, a new layer of sand has blown over them but half a mile inland, one may walk on a road where Roman armies marched shortly after the birth of Christ. . Jan van den Ende and Monique van den Broek filmed in this little paradise for four years showing us the changing seasons of the year - the struggle for life and the beauty of winter; the poetic awakening of nature, nesting birds, rare flowers, bulb fields in the dunes as spring arrives; gulls and their young, bird of prey, a wild gentian growing only on one square mile near The Hague as summer blossoms forth; glorious colors, a storm making the dunes move with the sounds of nature itself as fall trumpets the end of another growing season. | THE AUDUBON WILDLIFE FILMS are scheduled through the National
Audubon Society, headquartered in New York City. The Society, which recently
celebrated its 75th year, has more than 435,000 members, 10 regional offices,
and some 450 chapters nationwide. The Audubon Wildlife Film program is just one
of the Society's many education and conservation projects across the
country.

Uit de Haagsche Courant van 10-3-1987 VIER DUINDAGEN Vijf jaar heeft de Haagse filmer Jan van den Ende, samen met assistente Monique van den Broek, gewerkt aan een natuurfilm over het planten- en dierenleven in de Hollandse duinen tussen Haarlem en Goeree-Overflakkee. Het resultaat is een onverwachte serie beelden van het leven in de duinen in winter, lente, zomer en herfst. "Het geluid hebben we rechtstreeks opgenomen, zodat je nu allerlei zeldzame dieren kunt horen in hun eigen omgeving", zegt Van den Ende. "De duinen bestaan uit drie zones: zeerijp, binnen- en
buitenduinen. Er heerst een bijzonder klimaat: op de zuidhellingen kan het wel
80o Celsius worden, maar in de zomer kan het er ook vriezen. Het
resultaat is een heel aparte flora. We hebben de harkwesp ontdekt waarvan lang
was gedacht dat hij hier niet meer voorkwam. Er zitten in dat gebied wel
driehonderd nesten. Ook de wulp en de zeldzame geoorde fuut (een twaalftal
paren) konden we filmen, evenals hagedissen", aldus Van den Ende, die eraan
toevoegt dat hij onlangs heeft ontdekt dat er weer wilde reeën in de buurt van
Den Haag rondlopen.
